How Does Our Wireless System Work?

OnALot.com has antennas up on the top of water towers, radio towers and the roof of some taller buildings. We transmit the internet from those antennas.

We put an antenna on your place, which is connected to a radio modem. That radio modem feeds our signal to your computer, and you get the internet! It's really that simple!

Is It A Satellite System?

No. Although satellite systems are similar, we're not the same. A satellite is launched by a rocket into space, and sits over 22,000 miles above the earth. Going up and back down is over 44,000 miles, and things such as clouds, rain, snow and other bad weather can easily interfere with the satellite's signal, and it quite often does!

We don't have that problem since we're on your local tower, and only transmit a few miles tops to you. Our signals are quite strong, and easily overcome any bad weather, so you get a constant signal! Plus, being so close to you, we don't suffer from misaligned antennas like the satellite systems do!

And don't forget, we don't use or need a telephone line! That alone will save you a lot of money!

How Long Does It Take To Get It?

Depending on your house, it usually takes between 1 to 2 hours to install our system. Longer if you want extra "goodies" like multiple computers or a wireless router for your laptop.

We've been installing our systems for 6 years now, and there's no kind of installation we haven't seen before, or is too difficult. We do a fine job of creating a nice appearing installation that suites your home's exterior.

Will My Computer Work With Wireless?

Our Wireless Internet system easily works with Windows Vista, XP, 2000, ME, and 98. It won't work with Windows 95 or 3.1, and you should upgrade to a newer computer if you have one with those versions - they won't work well on the internet anymore.

If you want a multiple computer setup where the computers are wired together, each computer should have a network port, called an ethernet port. We can install an ethernet port if yours doesn't have one.

Our system also works with Apple MacIntosh computers, provided they have an ethernet port or have Aircard installed.
