Using Vonage, MagicJack or Other VOIP Services
Please Note:
At this time, we do not recommend you purchase Vonage, MagicJack or any other VOIP telephone systems. Our Wireless Internet system is a shared resource, and the activities of our other customers will affect the quality of any internet based telephone system.
Some of our customers have Vonage, and they periodically report delays or "putt putt'ing" on their voice circuits.
If you still wish to try them out, we have provided the guide below to do so. OnALot.com makes no guarantees that you will have success with Vonage or any other internet based telephone service, and we cannot make changes or support you in any other way to try to improve service with Vonage or any other service. Please do not call us asking for assistance with these other services - if you need assistance, please call them.
Setting Up Vonage
Vonage offers low cost long distance and local calling provided you have a broadband connection. Our wireless system is broadband, and for most customers, the Vonage system will work with some limitations. However, it's important to note that our system is a shared system, and during peak usage hours, you may get some choppiness when using Vonage. If you decide to get Vonage, you will need to set it up differently than what their instructions show. This page will give you details on connecting their router to our system.
When you connected up with OnALot.com, you were set up in one of 2 ways:
A single desktop installation, with a PCI card and antenna, or, a Workgroup Bridge radio up at the antenna and a router next to your computer. Each setup requires it's own way to connect. Please click on the correct link below:
Single desktop with a PCI card
Bridge radio and a router
Note: A very few customers only have the Bridge radio, and no router. Call us if you are going to get the Vonage system.
