Free
Anti-Spyware Software!
Each time you visit a website, a "cookie"
is left on your system. Most cookies are
OK, they help your machine to be recognized
the next time you visit that site, and will
make pages download faster. However, some
sites have spyware that they deposit on
your machine. And, if you click on a Pop-Up,
you can bet that spyware is installed and
the advertising will begin. (Always close
popups with the "X" in the top
right corner. Never click on ANYTHING inside
a popup - it will load the nasties they
want to put on your machine)
So, how to get rid of it? Onalot recommends
that you install Ad-Aware, a free program
from Lavasoft. Here's how to get it:
Note: LavasoftUSA sometimes changes their site, so the directions below are only a guide on how to get their free product. You may have to "look around" for the link if they have moved it and we haven't updated this page.
- In the Address line of your browser,
enter: www.lavasoftusa.com
and click Go
- When Lavasoft's page comes up, click
on Home and then the SE Personal (free download) links. Click on the Download.com icon in the Mirror
Sites box
- When the Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition
1.06 page comes up, click on Download
Now
- You will Save the aawsepersonal.exe
file, and then Save it to your Desktop
on the next page.
- Once it is saved, click on Open to
start the Install Wizard. Accept the license
agreement.
- Let it do an upgrade if it asks to
do so.
- You can now click on Start and Next
to begin a scan.
We suggest you read the Help file that
popped up to learn about Ad-Aware - do this
while it's running for the first time. When
done, allow it to delete or remove any of
the junk it finds, and your system will
be much cleaner and faster as a result!
